Nochma Introduction

As one of the subsidiary peaks of the Konka mountaions, Nochma is located 5588 meters above the sea level and is regarded as the easier one to climb among all the peaks towering above 5500 meters in the Konka region. Mr and Mrs Billy from Germany were succeeded topping the mountain peakin late April ,2001. It was a long time before a new climbing record was set down. In May 2006, oneedged- city wanderer, 8 thousand miles away, spent 10 days making it to the top with Nima, a local Tibetan guide. It is not very difficult to climb across crevasses and slopes covered with ice and snow. If weather permits, it will just take one day to climb from the base camp on the end of the glacier tongue to the top of the mountain, from which you can be presented with a complete overlook of Konka’s northwestern ridge and its main peak with great sceneries.

Climatic Conditions

The region has a temperate plateau climate, which is so changeable that the period from June to October is rainy season and the period from November to May ofnext year is dry season.

The precipitation around 800-900 mm comes mainly from July , August and September every year.

In dry season, the weather is fine. In addition, it is warmer onNochma than in other places at the same latitude.The highest temperature there is in April and May during one year.

Climbing activities are often planned during the periods of heavy rainfallalternate with the periods of drought.

There is a great difference in the height of hypsography of the Konka Mountain. From bottom to top, there are 7 climate zones, that is, subtropical zone,warm- temperate zone , cold- temperate zone, subfrigid zone, frigid zone,cold zone and snow zone.

Climbing History

The earliest climbing record was set by Mr and Mrs Billy from Germany .They were succeeded topping the mountain in late Apirl, 2001.

Climbing Route

Day 1: Chendgu – Bawanghai – Shangzimei

pick up at the meeting point in Chengdu, transfer to Caoke village. Keep driving to the check point at the end of road after the lunch.
put your heavy package on the horse back and hike a bit from check point to Bawanghai, then take a minibus to Zimei village.

Overnight: Guest house in Zimei Village, altitude: 3750m
Meal: Lunch at Caoke Village, Dinner at Zimei village

Day 2: Zimei village – Konha monastery – Konha Glacier – Nama mountain base camp

Konha monatsery is one of most important monastery in Tibetan Buddhism white School (Bkav brgyud), and it is also the best photograph place of the main peak of Minya Konka.

Hiking for 6-7 hrs to Nama mountain base camp.

Overnight: Camping
Meal: breakfast in Zimei village, Food on road, dinner at camping spot.

Day 3: Base Camp – C1

Hiking for 4-5 hrs to C1, this part do not provide horse pacakge service.
you need to preapre a small bag for your sleeping bag, warm cloth and climbing euipment.
If you want to continue use the horse service in this part, the price is 400yuan a round. pay cash to horse owner.

Overnight: Camping
Meal: breakfast at camping base, Food on road, dinner at camping spot.

Day4: C1 – Top of Nama mountain – Base camp

get up at 2:30 am in the morning and have breakfast.

start to heading to top at 3:30am. Need around 5-6 hrs to top and 4 hrs back to base camp.

Overnight: Camping
Meal: breakfast at camping spot, Food on road, dinner at camping base.
altitude: Top of Nama mountain 5588m

Day 5: Base camp – Konka monastery – Zimei village – Caoke village

get back to Zimei village from base camp, It takes around 5 hrs. then take a mini bus to Bawanghai, hiking 2 hrs backing to Caoke village.

overnight: hotel in Caoke
Meal: breakfast at camping spot, Food on road, dinner at hotel.
altitude: 1330m

Day 6: Back to Chengdu

Meal: breakfast in hotel
