Travel information

Seda is above 4,000 meters above sea level and belongs to the plateau area. Visitors arriving at the plateau may have altitude sickness, pay attention to drink more water and avoid strong exercise.

Local life

The Tibetan herdsmen in the pastoral areas have long lived a nomadic life with plants and tents. In recent years, traditional lifestyles have slowly been replaced by settlements. Intercity traffic

The best way for travelers to visitSertar is arriving Chengdu first. There are many chartered drivers at the Chengdu Chadianzi Bus Terminal and the airport. The daily charter cost is 200 to 300 yuan.

Seda County Bus Terminal
There are shuttles to Malcolm and Chengdu, which are basically starting around 6:00. It is recommended that the tourists who traveled there confirm the departure time one day before you paln to leave. A shuttle bus to Malkhong takes about 10 hours and costs 84 yuan or 101 yuan. The shuttle bus to Chengdu takes about 12 hours and the fare is 218 yuan or 239 yuan.
Kangding toSertar opened a privately-run shuttle bus in 2012. The journey is about 9 hours. The frequency is not fixed. It is recommended to confirm it one day in advance.

Larung Gar

The population of over 40,000 comprises primarily monks and nuns making it possibly the largest religious institute in the world, and is based around the Serthar Institute founded by Jigme Phuntsok. It was founded in 1980 in the uninhabited valley by Jigme Phuntsok, a lama of the Nyingma tradition. The academy has grown substantially since: as of 2015, it is home to over 40,000 monks and nuns. Nuns and monks are segregated by age and sex. Housing for monks and nuns are divided by a winding road that divides the city. The Chinese government has prohibited the use of television and other communication equipment in the area.

Dongga Monastery

Dengdeng qudeng Stupa

Sertar Buddhist Lessons
Enter the Sertar and you will be able to see the red houses that are several kilometers long. You can see the ornamental gardens and the splendid mandala at far away from the Academy, you can also open the door and listen to a true Buddhist lesson with the monks.

The location of the classroom is not fixed. It may be the main hall or it may be a small temple.
