Destination sketch

Ya’an is located in Sichuan to the southwest of China. It is situated in the mountainous western fringe of the Sichuan Basin on the Qingyi River. Ya’an is approximately 80 miles southwest of Chengdu. The city is also known as the home of the giant pandas who were first discovered by French commissioners in Ya’an.

Culture

Ya’an is the starting point of Tea Horse Road in South China Road. The Yaan Lubian Tea was introduced to Tibet from the Tang Dynasty. It has a history of more than 1,300 years and has always been a favorite drink for Tibetans.

Shangli Ancient Town

Shangli Ancient Town is a famous historical and cultural towns in Sichuan, with the provincial cultural relics protection units 2, municipal 6. Bifengxia Panda Base

China Giant Panda Protection and Research Center in Ya’an Bifengxia Base is attached to the national forestry bureau of Wolong Nature Reserve Administration China Giant Panda Protection and Research Center. Bifengxia Panda Base is located in Bifengxia Scenic Area north of Yaan city, 150 km from Chengdu.
The Bifengxia Panda Base is a panda park that includes panda raising, breeding, rescuing and education.The Base is divided into feeding, breeding area, scientific research area, office area, living area and bamboo base.
The giant panda kindergarten, panda hospital, the Giant Panda Research Institute and more than 20 laboratories are built inside the Bifengxia panda base. There are 7 types of transplanting bamboo that pandas like are also planted at the base.

Mt. Mengding

With a length of about 10 kilometers, a width of about 4 kilometers and an elevation of 1,456 meters, Mengding Mountain is one of the three famous mountains in Sichuan. It is known to the world by the famous Mengding Mountain Tea. Mengding Mountain is one of the birthplaces of tea and tea culture in China. It is also the earliest recorded area of artificial tea in China and representative of Sichuan tea culture.

Yunfeng Temple Religious Culture Tourist Area

The entire scenic area consists of religious and cultural areas, agricultural ecological areas, natural ecological tourism areas. By 2004, Yunfeng Temple had become the largest and most influential venue for religious activities in Ya’an City.

Niubei Mountain

Niubei Mountain is located in Ya’an city which is part of Sichuan province and neighbours Luding county, the mountain is a branch of Erlang mountain which seperates the Qingyi River and Dadu River. Niubei Mountain gains its name from the shape of the mountain top which Resembles the back of the bull. Niubei Mountain is a relatively new tourist attraction that was introduced only in 2009. Menghuo city Scenic Area

Menghuo city Scenic Area is 52 kilometers away from Shimian County. Here are some of the most moderate, largest and most accessible alpine ecological meadows in western China, as well as attractions such as the Red Rock Beach, the public welfare sea virgin forest, hot springs, and Moon Lake. There are more than 1,000 animals and plants such as giant pandas and yew.

Tianwanhe Scenic Area

Lushan Longmen Cave

Lushan Longmen Karst Cave is a rare conglomerate cave in the world. It has been developed for more than 20 kilometers. There are three layers of caves and dark rivers. It is warm in winter and cool in summer.

It maintains a good original appearance, and the plants are distributed in a complete range. There are many varieties of rare and precious protection in the country.

Fengyong village and Dengchi valley Scenic Area

Sichuan Fengyong Village National Nature Reserve is located in the northeastern part of Baoxing County, Sichuan Province and is located on the west slope of the Qionglai Mountain. Covered an area of 39,039 hectares. The main protected objects are rare and endangered animal bears, golden monkeys and mixed forest ecosystems in the mountains.

The Qingyi River rafting project is located in Lushan County, Ya’an City. It starts from Tongtouxia to Feixianguan and is 10 km in length. It takes about one and a half hours.

Ya’an’s accommodation prices range from 100 yuan to 200 yuan. The best accommodation for scenic spots is the Bifeng Gorge and Zhougongshan Hot Springs. The choice of three or four star high-grade hotels are 300 to 400 yuan for one night and 200 yuan for the off season.

Food

Ya’an has many street food stands that sell cheap but remarkable foods. Specialty foods include:
Ya Fish – a freshwater fish that is native to the area.
Dandan Noodles – hand pulled thick noodles in a mala spicy broth.
Bamboo Shoots – which grow wild in the mountains, they are often served in salads or stir fried with salted ham, and can be purchased dried for Y60/kg at many tourist locations.
