Destination sketch

The Qilian Mountains also known as Richthofen Range, s a northern outlier of the Kunlun Mountains, forming the border between Qinghai and the Gansu provinces of northern China.
The characteristic ecosystem of the Qilian Mountains has been described by the World Wildlife Fund as the Qilian Mountains conifer forests.

Local life

Local Tibetans live nomadic life. In the vast grasslands, there are scattered tents everywhere, becoming a beautiful landscape on the vast grasslands.

Beliefs and taboos

Qilian is a multi-ethnic settlement, with 15 ethnic groups including Tibetan, Han, Mongolian, Hui, Tu, and Sala. The ethnic minorities account for most of the 50,000 people in the county. Among them, the Tibetan nationality is a local indigenous people, while the Mongolian, Hui, Han and other ethnic groups have migrated from other places along with the development of ethnic exchanges.

The Chaoshan Festival is another large festival activity for the Qilian Tibetans. The Tibetan language is called “Zhuba Jersey”. On this day, people will rush to Arouda Temple to worship Buddha. Many people will set up tents near the monastery, bring out the dairy products, barley wine and candy, etc., and gather and dance on the green grass. Traditional festivals such as horse racing, archery and wrestling will also be held during the festival. The festival lasts 4 to 5 days.

Best Travel season

The best tourist season is from mid-June to mid-October. Qilian’s beautiful winter snow scene is also a reason why many Chinese and foreign tourists are coming.

Aircraft

The nearest airport to Qilian is Caojiabao Airport in Xining City, about 290 kilometers away. Take the plane and take the airport bus to the city. At the long-distance station, transfer to the passenger bus to Qilian.

Train

There are no trains in Qilian County at present, and you can choose to take the bullet train from Xining to Menyuan first. The journey takes about half an hour. Departure from Xining Station at 8:30, 12:05, 15:00, and 17:42 daily. Tickets cost RMB 30.

Taxi

Qilian County has not yet opened public transport. Taxi taxis in the county seat are very cheap, within 5 yuan.

Chartered

You can choose to go by chartering bus to the places which is out of city. In general, you can visit Qilian with nearby attractions. The price is between 1,500 and 2,000 yuan for two days. If you choose Haibei, you can rent a car from Xining, Zhangye and other cities for a few days. The price is about 1,000 to 1,500 yuan per day, depending on the model, the route of the tour, and the driver’s food and accommodation.

Niuxin Mountain

Niuxin Mountain means “the Mountain of God” in Tibetan Language. It is 4667 meters above sea level. It is located 2 kilometers southeast of Qilian County. As a symbol of Qilian, Niuxin Mountain is irrigated with wheat waves, rape flowers, and is a farmhouse of agricultural agriculture in the plateau valley. Upwards of the mountain are grassy pastures.

Qilian Deer Farm

Black River Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon of the Black River is 450 kilometers long (with more than 70 kilometers of no man’s land). The canyons are rich in animal and plant resources and numerous historical sites, forming a charming valley scenery.
The Black River Grand Canyon is a canyon that was washed out of the BlacK River on the Qilian Grassland and it is the second largest and third largest gorge in the world.

Bayi Glacier

Arouda Temple

Arrival method: There is a 204 Provincial Highway leading to Qilian on the 315 National Road. From this crossing, it is nearly 200 kilometers away from Qilian, on both sides of the road is Qilian grassland.

Ice Valley Scenic Area

The valley scenic spot is like an emerald inlaid in the mountains. A piece of Qinghai pine and shrub grass surrounds the glacier and forms a natural picture. Even though the elevation of Qilian is high, it has a unique natural forest oxygen bar, which looks like a source of extraterrestrial life.

 Daban Mountain
