With a history of thousands of years, the region is renowned for the abundant tourism resources including cultural relics like the Yu the Great Mausoleum and many residences of famous figures in Chinese history. In fact, Shaoxing is recognized as one of the Famous Historical and Cultural Cities in the country. Moreover, as a city to the south of the Yangtze Delta, the natural scenery here is totally charming and varied with an intriguing landscape of numerous green hills and clean waters. Shaoxing is also known variously as the ‘City of Waters,’ ‘City of Bridges,’ ‘City of Calligraphy,’ ‘City of Tea,’ and ‘City of Scholars.’ It gives off an image of an elegant and peaceful locale with deep cultural connotations, south of the Yangtze River.
Local festival
Lanting International Calligraphy Festival and the Peachblossom Festival in Hou Mountain. During May to October, the waterfalls in Wuxie Scenic Spot are much more spectacular because of the sudden increase in water run-off in the rainy season. Autumn in Shaoxing is the most pleasant season, for the sky is clear and the air is crisp. There is less rain during this season.
Lanting International Calligraphy Festival is held in Lanting Pavilion (Orchid Pavilion) on March 3 (lunar calendar) every year. On that day, many famous calligraphers get together here to display their calligraphic skills and their works. People meet to share their experiences on calligraphy and to drink together.
Peachblossom Festival in Hou Mountain is held in Hou Mountain in March every year, when people hike in the charming peach blossom mountain, appreciating the beautiful scenery.
Rice Wine Festival of Shaoxing is held during October every year. It is a grand and wide-ranging festival including series of programs such as discussions on wine culture and rice wine, and a Gourmet street, evening lantern show and the calligraphy-painting exhibition on rice wine.
Best Travel season
One during March to June and the other during September. In the rainy seasons, the climate is usually humid and hot. During April and May, although still in the rainy season, the weather is comfortable.

Lu Xun’s Hometown Tourism Precinct
Known as the writer who held the most important position in East Asia during the 20th century, and praised as the national spirit of modern China, Lu Xun was a litterateur and a great thinker in modern China. He possessed expertise in many fields, for example, writing, translation, the fine arts, and the study of ancient books. Many of his articles are included in the textbooks used by Chinese students, educating as well as encouraging them. By the way, Lu Xun is his pen name. His original name is Zhou Shuren.
Lu Xun Native Place is the name given to a large scenic area in his hometown, Shaoxing of Zhejiang Province, where he was born and grew up. Here, visitors can learn about his early life and trace the scenes he wrote about by visiting his ancestral house, former residence, pleasure ground in Baicao Garden, and his school Sanwei Study Room, etc.

Shen’s Garden
Shenyuan is one of the most typical Chinese Gardens in Shaoxing. Built in Song Dynasty (960~1279), Shen Garden has been more than 800 years old. It is the private garden of the Shen family at the beginning, but is widely known for the love story between Lu You and Tang Wan.
Lu You was a famous poet in Southern Song Dynasty (1127~1279). After marrying his wife Tang Wan, they loved each other so much and stayed together all the time, which was thought to be having no desire to make progress in Lu’s mother’s eyes. Therefore she forced Lu You to divorce Tang Wan on the excuse of Lu’s not working hard as well as Tang Wan’s not having a baby in three years’ marriage. They had no choice but to obey, as in ancient China children had to obey their parents without conditions. Ten years later, they came across in Shenyuan Garden. Tang Wan asked her servant to send some food to Lu You. Looking at the food, Lu You was utterly depressed and wrote the outstanding poetry ‘Phoenix Hairpin’ to express his love for Tang Wan as well as his unwillingness for their separation. Heard of this poetry, Tang Wan wrote another to reply to Lu You and showing the same emotion and died for depression several days later. Lu You loved Tang Wan so much that he never forgot her and even come to Shenyuan to recall Tang Wan in his old age.

Cangqiao Straight Street
Cangqiao Straight Street is located in the historical block of the Yue Wang City in Zhejiang Shaoxing with a total length of 1.5 kilometers and it is in the east side of Fushan Mountain. It is a historical and cultural street which takes the traditional local-style dwelling houses as the main connotation of residential and combines living, business and tourism as a whole. It also won the “Regional Heritage Protection Award in the Asia-Pacific Region” from United Nations, calling it a “living display of Chinese heritage”.

Orchid Pavilion
Located in the southwest suburb of Shaoxing City, Zhejiang Province, the Orchid Pavilion is a key point of interest. Its attraction not only comes from magnificent landscape and graceful southern China gardening sights, but also from profound historical culture and its unique and vast reputation in the calligraphic field.
The Orchid Pavilion (Lan Ting) was originally the site where Gou Jian, the King of the Yue State during the Spring and Autumn Period (770 BC – 476 BC), planted orchids. Later it became famous for Wang Xizhi, a renowned calligrapher of the Eastern Jin Dynasty (317-420). His ‘Preface to the Orchid Pavilion Anthology’ has made the Orchid Pavilion the Calligraphic Mecca, at the same time making himself the sage of calligraphy.

Kuaiji Mountain
ocated in Shaoxing, Zhejiang, Kuaiji Mountain is well known not only for mountain sceneries but also for its important role in Chinese history, for it is regarded, to some extent, as a symbol of Chinese civilization. Anchang Ancient Town
Anchang Ancient Town, in the northwest part of Shaoxing County, Zhejiang Province, is a famous ancient town in Shaoxing. Like Zhouzhuang and Tongli, Anchang is a typical waterlogged town, more serene and picturesque than the others. The Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport is around 30 km (18 mi) away. The town can date back to North Song Dynasty (960-1127), though most residences were built in Ming (1368-1644) and Qing Dynasties (1644-1911). Shaoxing traditional customs are still observed.
The mile long slates paved old street makes this town an important commercial center and markets in history. The street is along the north bank of a river, parallel to residence on the south bank. Different kinds of small traditional workshops are found along the street, in which products are sold. Visitors can see how people cook traditional food on the spot.
Yangshan Stone Buddha
Stone Buddha Grottoes peaks, one for the southern four stone Buddhas. Buddha, 10 meters high, the left knee fall to be shaking hands with visitors, this attitude is rare in China. Yangshan foot of the lake has Shifosi, Temple, surrounded by water on both sides of solitary backers.
Zhuji City
Zhuji City is the hometown of Xishi, the famous beauty in Spring and Autumn Period. Her story of devotion to her country has been passed down generation to generation and, to commemorate her, local people built a temple. Nowadays, based on the original temple, a brand new Xishi Hometown Tourist Zone has been built up along the Huansha River to revive the custom as well as the beautiful scenery of this town in ancient times.
In addition to the human landscape, the famous Wuxie Scenic Spot betrays an attractive and natural scenery lying, as it does, in the west of Zhuji. The Wuxie Scenic Spot is renowned for its various waterfalls.
