It is the intersection of East-West & North-South railways and North-South & East-West Expressways as well. It takes 40 minutes drive from this city to Changsha Airport.

Yandi Mausoleum

Yandi Mausoleum is the burial place of Yan Emperor Shennong, the ancestor of the Chinese nation. It is located 19 kilometers (12 miles) west of Yanling County and 200 kilometers (124 miles) southeast of Zhuzhou City, Hunan Province. In history, it has undergone many destructions and reconstructions. The current Yandi Mausoleum was reconstructed in 1986 based on the structure of Yandi Mausoleum in Qing Dynasty (1644 – 1911 AD), mainly consisting of Yandi Temple and Shennong Hall. It covers an area of 3,836 square meters (4,588 square yards) and is the holy land of Chinese people at home and abroad to worship the ancestor Yan Emperor.

Arrival method: At Zhuzhou Central Bus Station, you can take the bus to Yanling County. The ticket is 41 yuan. After going to Yanling County, there are many buses to Yandi Mausoleum. The fare is 4 yuan. If you are heading from Chaling, you can take a bus from Chaling Railway Station to Yanling County. The ticket is 12 yuan.

Shennonggu National Forest Park

Shennonggu National Forest Park (formerly Taoyuandong National Forest Park) is located at the boundary area between Yanling County and Jiangxi Province, 45 kilometers from the Yanling county seat. Average temperature of the hottest July is about 24C (75F). Obviously, it is ideal mountain resort for visitors in summer. Microclimate in the park is favorable and air is fresh and of superior quality. April to November is the best time to visit this enlivening land of forest and water.

Establishing Xiangtan as a county began in the Tang Dynasty (618-907). From then on, its domain remains relatively stable in the following years. On the basis of the county, the government of the PRC established the Xiangtan City in 1950.

Best travel season

The April azaleas in Shaoshan and the red autumnal leaves in Zhaoshan Mountain are both attractive scenery of Xiangtan.

Mt. Shaoshan Scenic Area

Shaoshan, a county-level city of Xiangtan City in central Hunan Province, is well-known as the hometown of Chairman Mao Zedong where he was born and undertook the revolutionary activities in his youth. Due to the advantaged natural environment and the history, it has become a well-known scenic area, also regarded as a sacred place to commemorate the Chinese revolution. There are four main scenic areas here: Mao Zedong’s Former Residence, Water Dripping Cave, Shaoshan Peak and Limpid Stream.

Chairman Mao’s Former Residence

Scenic spots in this area depict Mao Zedong’s former residence and provide historical information about him. These attractions include the Former Residence, the Memorial Museum, Memorial Park, Mao’s Bronze Statue Square, the Relics Museum, the Library, and the Mao Ancestral Hall.

Water Dripping Cave

Water Dripping Cave is Chairman Mao’s villa which is 3 km (around 2 mi) away from his former residence. It consists of Water Dripping Valley, Tiger Resting Lawn (Huxie Lawn), Dragon Head Hill, No.1 Building, and other scenic spots.

The cave is 2.8 km (about 1.5 mi) long with a stream flowing through it. Many trees and flowers grow here. Visitors can find over 30 species of trees including gingko, privet, and the rare cycas a genus of the Cycadaceae family, as well as over 100 species of flowers such as azalea, rose, and chrysanthemum.

Shaoshan Peak

The peak is also called Fairy Peak or Fairy and Elegant Peak. The main attractions include the Steles Forest of Mao Zedong’s Poems, the Temple of Shaoshan Peak, and the rope way.

Yuhu Park

Located in the downtown, the Yuhu Lake (Rainy Lake) in the park is a pluvial lake. Gathering willows, pavilions and halls, it is one of the most distinguished attractions of Xiangtan.
