Chenzhou is located in the southwest region of Hunan Province, neighboring Yongzhou in the west, Zhuzhou and Hengyang in the north. It is also bounded on the east by Jiangxi Province and on the south by Guangdong Province. The capital city of Hunan, Changsha, is about 350 kilometers (217 miles) away. An ancient form of the character ‘Chen’ consisted of two characters, meaning town in forest. Chen, as a county was first built in the Qin Dynasty under the administration of Changsha Shire. Through a thousand years of changes, the Chenzhou has always been the center of administrative organizations here.

Chenzhou is dominated by the Han nationality, ethnic minorities are scattered living, and ethnic minorities are Yao and Yi. Please avoid wearing white shoes and white hats when you enter Yao’s family, because it symbolizes funerals.

Culture

Yao Pan King Festival Festival October 16th
The Yao Pan King Festival is the most grand and sacred traditional festival of the Yao nationality. Since October 16th of the lunar calendar, the Yao people held a ceremonial event of “returning the king” in Panwang Temple, which lasted 7 days and 7 nights or 5 days and 5 nights. Mangshan National Forest Park

Mangshan National Forest Park has the most intact subtropical primeval secondary forest and evergreen broad-leave forest in the world. Dongjiang Lake

Magnificent rocks and Suxian Hil

Wugai Mountain Hunting Field

The Wugai Mountain Hunting Field is one of the only two hunting fields in China. It is also the sole hunting-permitted area south of the Yangtze. Forests covers approximately 78 per cent of the total area of the Wugai Mountain Hunting Field. A total of 130 species of animals have been recorded from this area, almost all of them existing in substantial numbers. Out of the 130, only 26 species are allowed to be hunted. Some of these include the sambar, wild boar, South China rabbit and badger.

Feitianshan National Geopark

Feitianshan National Geological Park is dominated by the Danxia landforms, including the Cretaceous faulted basins, Carboniferous karst caves and hot springs, and other geological relics. Feitianshan is surrounded by mountains and rocks.

Food
