• Bring warm clothes with you because weather in the mountains are changeable;
• Wearing sunglasses so as to protect yourself from the strong light reflected from the ice and snow;
• There are many big glaciers in Hailuogou, including the three major ones — No. 1 Glacier, 14 km; No. 2, 4.8 km; and No. 3, 4.2 km. The lowest point of No.1 Glacier is 3,650 meters above sea level, which is reserved for mountaineers only. Hailuogou (Conch Gully) National Glacier Forest Park is located on the eastern side of Gonggar Mountain in Luding County of Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Garze, Sichuan Province. It is 319 km from Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan Province and 105 km from Kangding, where administrative organs of the Garze Autonomous Prefecture are located. Glaciers in Hailuogou are typical modern marine glaciers, which are rarely found either in low-latitude places or at low altitude. Its lowest point is only 2,850 meters above sea level.

When you meet temple, Mani stone piles, white pagoda and other religious facilities, you must circle it from the left to side. When entering the temple, avoid smoking, touching Buddha statues, turning books, and hitting the bell.

Culture

Tibetan Village House
According to the traditional Tibetan customs, wooden buildings are generally three-storey, with livestock at the bottom (also with earth houses designed separately) and root vegetables such as potatoes and radishes. The second floor is for the family and the gods and bodhisattvas to cohabitate, and important items are also stored on the second floor. The third floor is for the storage of food, forage and bamboo, wooden farm tools and so on. With the improvement of life, the building where humans and animals cohabitation has been eliminated.

Hailuogou has a complex terrain and special climate types. The average annual temperature of Moxi Town on the foot of the mountain is about 13°C. In the mountains above 5,000 meters above sea level, snow is accumulated all year round, and the average annual temperature is around -9°C. Hailuogou can be visited during the four seasons. It is not limited by climate and landscape conditions. It is an ideal place for tourism, holiday, convalescence, hiking, scientific exploration and adventure.

The consumption level of Luding County is not high, but some scenic spots are more expensive. The charter fee is high, generally starting from 100 yuan, but the tourists on foot do not need to spend the transportation fee in Luding County, and the daily average can be maintained within 200 yuan.

Chartered car

At present, the tourist line traffic in the Gongga area is still under construction. The best way to travel here is chartered vehicles. From Kangding chartered car to Shangzi Mei village, starting from 1,000 yuan, the nearest one can choose from Xinduqiao chartered vehicle, about 600 yuan. In Gonggashan Township, you can find a local driver to take you up the mountain and the motorcycle price is around RMB 200.

Mount Gongga (Minya Konka)

Mount Gongga is located at the eastern edge of the Tibetan Plateau, between the Dadu River and the Yalong River, in the middle section of the Hengduan Mountains. It covers an area of about 30 kilometers (about 19 miles) east-west length by about 60 kilometers (about 37 miles) south-north. It lies among Kangding, Luding, Shimian and Jiulong, the four counties of the Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Garze in Sichuan Province. It is the highest mountain in Sichuan, with the highest peak of 7,556 meters (about 24,790 feet) above sea level, enjoying the fame as ‘King of the Mountains in Sichuan Province’

Gongga Snow Peak

Gongga Mountain is a Tibetan word for “the supreme, white and unblemished mountain”. It borders the Dadu River to the east and the Yalong River to the west. It is a mountain that mountaineers eager to conquer. It is more difficult to climb than Mount Everest, and many people paid the price of life. no one climbed to the top again in the decades after the Chinese National Team climbed the summit in 1957.

Quanhuatan calcification waterfall

Located in Yulong West Village, Gonggashan Township, Kangding County, the Quanhuatan Calcification waterfall is more than 900 meters long and more than 100 meters wide. The colorful water platforms are rich in minerals and form eight spring terraces down the mountain. Streams flow down the slope and cascade down to form the current calcification pool.

Gongga Temple

A temple on the southwest slope of the Gongga Mountain stands in the white snow, like a lighthouse in the snow world. Most of the lamas have now moved to the New Temple in backside of Mountain. Today, the Gongga Temple has been permanently protected as a spiritual symbol. Only some lamas will be on duty monthly.

Bawang Lake

Once here is one of the clear lakes, the famous point of Gongga Mountain. Because of the development and construction of the downstream power station, the current size of Bawang Lake is only the size of a small pool, which is mainly used as a rest stop for hikers.

Lotus lake

Located in the southwest of Kangding County, Pu Sharong Township is about 3,000 meters above sea level. As the most beautiful lake around Gongga Mountain, you need to walk for 3 hours to get a real experience. From the Sade chartered car about 40 kilometers, you can reach the starting point of the hiking near the forest farms, through the ciya grass dam, Ruojida Hot spring and Kuxirong Valley.

Hailuogou Glacier Forest Park

In Hailuogou, there are a few glaciers, among which the No.1 glacier is the greatest in the east hillside of Mt. Gongga. And it is also the greatest one in Asia for its lowest altitude in the same latitude. It is in a length of 14.2km, and a 6-km-long large ice tongue stretches out in the virgin forest. So it takes the shape of coexistence of glacier and virgin forest that is a rare wonder in the world.
Beyond the black pine forest, once catch sight of the great icefall which is unique in the world. It is far beyond your imagination. When icefall crashing happens, the great collision between the ice pieces brings forth electricity, which behaves as the powerful blue spark. The land is trmbling, and the valley is buzzing. At the same time of ice dropping, great snow fog appears, flying all around the sky. It is really magic and magnificent.

Yajiageng Red Rock Beach

Yajiagengis part of the National Scenic Area of Gongga Mountain and is also the boundary mountain of Kangding and Luding County.
Redstone created the magic of Gongga Mountain – the first red rock beach in the world. On the banks of the glacier, each stone is covered with a red coat, and the red rocks that accumulate on both sides of the river turn into a flowing red color, which flows down the clear glacier water. The color is bright red, endless, and magnificent. Redstone was born in ancient times. Like the dinosaurs and ancient ferns in the ancient ice age, redstone already existed before human beings were born. Today, the existing red stone is extremely rare. From the perspective of the distribution area, the Red Rock in the Gongga Yanzigou is the world’s largest.

Big ice waterfall

Hailuogou Big ice waterfall is located at the top of the Hailuogou Glacier and is a huge steep wall. When the glaciers move here, they fall into a waterfall and form a giant solid ice dam. The Big Ice Falls is a 1080 meters high and 1,100 meters wide. It is the highest and largest ice waterfall in China, equivalent to 15 times that of Huangguoshu Falls. This immense solid ice fall, like a galaxy that descends from the blue sky, stands like a vast silver screen, standing on a glacier.

Yanzi Valley

Yanzi Valley is the sister valley of Hailuogou, which is located more than 10 kilometers northwest of Hailuogou, surrounded by 15 peaks of 5,000 meters above sea level. From the height of 2100 meters, it is extended up to 7556 meters of the main peak of Gongga Mountain. It is still a place where a few people would like to go. To the place. The original scenery in the valley is natural.
Yanzi Valley is also a famous international mountaineering tourism route. Most of the climbers who climb Gongga Mountain have set up base camp here.

Nanmenguamn Valley

It has not yet been developed. The original scenery is more beautiful than the Yanzi Valley and the hiking is even more difficult here. The valley is more than 10 kilometers long and is oriented east to west. Primitive forests, glaciers and wildlife are the main viewing spots here.
After purchasing tickets and sightseeing tickets at the entrance to the park in Moxi Town, take a sightseeing bus directly to Camp 3 and walk for about 1 hour to reach the Glacier Observation Deck, through which you will pass through a pristine forest.
If you go to the opposite side of the Ice Falls Observation Deck, you can take the big cable car. If you go up, you need to do the registration, cause it is a place where professional climbers can go. Most people can’t just go through procedures and they can’t go up.
If you want to see the sunrise of Gonga Mountain, you must arrive at the observation platform before 7:00. It should be noted that it is not possible to go by the glacier company’s sightseeing car because the sightseeing car will not be launched until after 7:00. If you are traveling from the second camp, it is best to leave before 6:00.

 Moxi Ancient Town

It is located in the south of the Luding County in Garze, close to the Mount Gongga and the Hailuogou Glacier Forest Park. It is about 304 km away from Chengdu city, and about 70 km from Kangding.
Moxi Old Town is the settlement of the Han Nationality, Yi Nationality and Tibetan Nationality. It has kept a complete ancient town blocks; those blocks are the ancient building group built during late Qing Dynasty. Also, you can find a Catholic church built by the French and the red army camp led by Mao Zedong in 1935.

Luding Bridge

Luding Bridge has three hundred years history. This bridge is an ancient architecture with timber structure. There are 13 root chain anchor on both sides of the bridge. This bridge is 101 meters in length and 3 meters in width. It has been Sichuan-Tibet traffic thoroughfare. It famous for the significant war which is the Red Army fighting for the Luding Bridge in the process of the Long Twenty-five-thousand-kilometer March.

Erlang National Forest Park

Erlang Mountain is 3437 meters above sea level. The newly built Erlang Mountain Tunnel is located at the hillside of Erlang Mountain at an altitude of 2,182 meters. It has a total length of 8660 meters. It is the longest road tunnel in Asia and the longest and highest in the domestic road tunnels. Every year in May, the Erlang Mountain is full of purple, blue, red and white azaleas, which are particularly beautiful against the backdrop of solemn and quiet glaciers.

Hailuogou is the best place to shoot sunrise of Gongga Mountain. The location of photography is on the No. 1 or No. 3 campsite.

Gongga Trekking (North Slope – Southwest slope)

DAY 1: Lao Yulin – Liangchahe River
Get up early and arrive power station to start a walking tour. You can admire the Tian Haizi and Xiaogong Temples along the way. You will arrive at Da Caoba Camp (3,780 meters above sea level) on foot for about 1.5 hours. After a short meal, you will need to walk to the Liangchahe River and walk for about 5 hours. To reach the end of today, the right time to watch the snow-capped mountains sunset.
DAY 2: Liangchahe River – Shangriwuqie
In the morning, 4 hours on foot, you will arrive in Xiariwuqie, where you can see the gorge landscape of riwuqie Grand Valley. In the afternoon, you will continue to walk for 2 hours to reach Shangriwuqie Camping Site (at an altitude of 4350 meters).
DAY 3: Shangriwuqie – Moxigou Camp on the Last Day
After getting up early and adjusting the equipment, we set off over Riwuqie pass (4,860 meters above sea level) and arrived at Moxigou Camp after walking for 7 hours, with an altitude of 3600 meters.
DAY 4: Mo Xigou Camp – Gongga Temple
It is basically the same as yesterday’s trekking. You can see Shangzimei village along the way. You can choose to stay in the temple this night, or you can camp on your own.
DAY 5: Gongga Temple – Yulong West
After looking back at the last beauty of Gongga through Zimei’s mouth, then went downhill all the way and stayed at the Yulong West B&B or guesthouse in the evening, and walked for about 8 hours.

Accommodation

Many guest houses can be found in the county seat of Luding County. Moxi Town is a small local town with about 1,900 meters of altitude. It mainly houses the Yi and Han nationalities and is the only place to go to Hailuogou. Moxi Town is located at the gate of Hailuogou Scenic Area. It is very convenient for food and lodging. There are several three star, four-star hotels (hotels) and dozens of well-equipped accommodation and reception points. Prices are not expensive, standard rooms range from 100 to 200 yuan.

The Gongga Temple can be accommodated, but the conditions are simple and you need to bring your own food. Even if the conditions are harsh, you can see the sunrise of Gongga Mountain in the early morning when you open the window. Such an experience is worth trying.
