Situated in the subtropical monsoon climatic zone, Liangshan has distinct dry and wet seasons during the year. Liangshan weather in the winter-half of the year is dry and temperate, and it seldom rains. In the summer it is usually rainy and cloudy. The annual average temperature is around 16-17°C (60.8-62.6°F). The temperature can vary greatly during the day but only slightly over the course of the year. Torch Festival

It is one of the main holidays of the Yi people of southwest China, and is also celebrated by other ethnic groups of the region. It is celebrated on the 24th or 25th day of the sixth month of the Yi calendar, corresponding to August in the Gregorian calendar. It commemorates the legendary wrestler Atilabia, who drove away a plague of locusts using torches made from pine trees.[4] Since 1993, the government of the Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan has sponsored a modernised celebration of the festival, featuring wrestling, horse racing, dance shows, and a beauty contest. Different groups set the festival at different time.

Consumption level

With the increase of traffic routes between scenic spots, transportation costs are no longer a large expense, but some scenic spots and surrounding dining accommodations in the peak season will rise a lot, and the travel budget is around 300 yuan per day.

Traffic in the city

Bus

There are many bus lines in Xichang City, 1 yuan in the urban area and 2 yuan to 4 yuan in the suburbs, 12 of which are to and from the passenger station and the railway station. The bus No. 22 and 106 will stop along the west bank of the Bohai Sea.

Taxi

The starting price of taxis in urban areas is 4, 5 yuan, 5 yuan and 6 yuan at night, and the unit price is 1.8 yuan per kilometer.

Xichang Ancient City

Qionghai Lake and Lushan Mountain Scenic area

Qionghai Lake and Lushan Mountain are south of the city center. There is a surrounding wetlands area with a bike path which is approximately 40km all around. There is a ticket fee of 55 RMB, but there are many sections of the lake which can be accessed without purchasing a ticket.

Moon bay
Located on the north bank of the Qionghai lake, the meandering lakeshore line is like a crescent moon, so it is called Moon Bay. The 8 yellow banyan trees in the sea constitute a unique original ecological landscape.

Xichang Earthquake Stele Forest

Xichang Earthquake Stele Forest is located in Guangfu Temple, Nanxun Mountain, Xichang City. There are more than 100 stone monuments. Luoji Mountain

30 kilometers away from south Xichang, Luoji Mountain is a national 4A scenic spot, whose occupation of land is 1083 square kilometers, with a 4359 meters main peak. Yanyuan county

Lugu lake

A nice lake between Yunnan and Sichuan to relax one or two days. The area is protected from extensive development.

It is 2690 m above sea level at the borders between Sichuan and Yunnan Provinces. It covers an area of 50 km² with the average water depth of 45 m and the transparency 11 m. In the lake there are five islands, three peninsulas and a sea-wall islet. Here everything looks as if it has not been disturbed by human beings at all and still remains in its primitive state. Boating in the lake, you can feel that the surface of the water is as smooth as a mirror and the water as blue as the sky. The slow – canoe in the blue lake, the beautiful Mosuo girls in their ethnic clothes and the Mosuo folk songs will show you something of primitive simplicity and peace. Lugu Lake has the fame of a fabled abode of immortals and “Plateau Pearl” for its pure and virgin land of natural landscapes.

You can start out by walking around, but you won’t get very far before you get tired. You can rent bicycles to go around the lake, it would take you 8 hours. You can rent electric and motor scooters to loop around the lake in about 3 hours.

Canoe ride

The canoes are by the pier. Depending on the time of day, you may be able to negotiate the price with them. They wait until the canoe is full of passengers then they paddle you out to the island for 20 minutes and paddle you back.

Accommodation

Many places all around the lake. The main town on the Yunnan side is Luoshui, which is beautifully located on the lake’s shore. In high season it can get crowded, but in low season it’s serene and highly enjoyable. Some foreigners prefer to stay in Lige, which is a small village on the north side of the lake with a great view on the lake.

In Luoshui there are plenty of wonderful hotels in the ¥40-70 price range: expect a clean double room with an attached bathroom, hot water, electric blanket, wi-fi and a balcony or view to the lake. There is an expensive official youth hostel, but it’s cheaper and better to ask around in other hotels for a room. Bargaining is the norm in low season, but notice that a small deposit is usually required.
