As one of the oldest cities in the northeast of China, as early as 10,000 years ago, our ancestors multiplies and activated in this black land. The excavating reports replied that Qiqihar entered into the Bronze Age before 2,500 years ago. Qiqihar became a major garrison Center in 1674, when the Czarist Russian eastward advance to the Pacific coast. In 1691, a stronghold was constructed in Qiqihar because of the Qing government’s campaigns against the Mongols.
In 1907, Qing government replaced Heilongjiang general with Heilongjiang Province and Qiqihar was set up as the province city of Heilongjiang province. In 1954, Heilongjiang Province moved the province into Harbin. Qiqihar was authorized as provincial city.

Under the influence of temperate continental monsoon climate, Qiqihar has a long, bitterly cold, but dry winter, mild and short spring as well as warm and humid summer. The annual average temperature is 3.2 ℃. In January the 24-hour temperature averages -18.6℃, while the average 24-hour temperature is 23.2℃ in July. It has an annual precipitation is 415mm, with over two-thirds of it falling from June to August.
The consumption level of Qiqihar is not high, and the scenic spot will be a bit expensive.

Qiqihar has well-developed public transportation, densely populated urban areas, and direct buses to Zhalong Nature Reserve. Most buses in the urban area are 1 yuan, and the price of buses going to the suburbs varies. However, the bus last time is relatively early and travel needs to pay more attention.
The starting price of taxi is RMB 6 (including 3 km) during the day, and RMB 1.5 per km afterwards; RMB 6.8 (including 3 km) at 10:00 to 5:00 AM the next day, plus RMB 1.8 per km, plus 1 yuan fuel surcharge.
It is a famous nature reserve for bird fowl with an area of 210,000 hectares (2,100 sq kilometers). Reputed as the town of the cranes, it attracts two hundred and ninety-six species of birds in total, with the cranes being the largest in Number.

Bright Moon Island Scenic Area is located at 7 km northwest to Qiqihar City, is a central island surrounded by water in four sides in Nenjiang River, with the former name of “Sishui Island”. It’s located at the middle reach of Nenjiang River 7 km Northwest to Qiqihar City Heilongjiang Province. It looks like a bright moon reflected in Nenjiang River, so it’s named as “Bright Moon Island”. The east-west length of the island is about 4 km, the north-south width is about 3 km. and its area is approximately 7.6 square km. It has a beautiful and graceful natural environment, the topography of the island is zigzag and winding, with dotted meadows and swamps, 2 brooks and 5 lakes are peer distributed on island, and the sand dunes Trees are island and covered in more g with each other. It’s surrounded with green ripples, boasts a vast water and blue sky. There was a Dragon King Temple built in the late Qing Dynasty on the island, and Wanshan Temple was built in 1925. After the founding of the People’s Republic Of China, with the development and undertaking of city construction, it was formally designated as the scenic area integrating with natural landscape and classical buildings in 1982, there are the Main Hall, Happiness and Longevity Pavilion, Ruyi Pavilion, River-Watching Pavilion, ancient Buildings and temples and island rotary children’s excursion train on the island, the total length of the train railway is 4.5 km, and it’s currently the longest among all children’s excursion trains in China. The Skiing Ground on Bright Moon Island is also attracting throngs of skinning Fans coming for skiing in winter, and enjoying the endless funs brought to them by the ice and snow resources.

Constructed in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), this mosque is composed of the west and the east mosques. It is one of the largest and most well-preserved mosques in Heilongjiang Province.

It is commonly known as Great Buddhist Temple, which is located in southeast of the downtown area, about 2.5 km south of the Railway Station. It’s bordered with Nanshan, Nanhu and Xi’man Cemetery of Revolutionary Martyrs to the north, and bordered respectively with Minhang Road and South Zhanqian Street to the south and east, is facilitated with convenient traffic facilities, with a tranquil and graceful environment, is a treasured place for Catu Parisa for cultivation, and it’s a necessary scenic area for the tourists. First built in 1939, Mahayana Temple is built by Kong Yushu, President of Five-Religion Moral Cultivation Academy of Heilongjiang Province, is a Bodhimanda presided by the 44th generation offspring of Tiantai Sect Master “Ruguang”, therefore, Mahayana Temple is called as ancestral of the Tiantai Sect in north. Later the Buddhist services were forcibly stopped due to chaos caused by war, and was requisitioned. The Provincial Buddhist Association and the Municipal Government of Qiqihar intended to recover the original layout of Mahayana Temple in 1990, so Master “Miaoxiu”, the 45th generation offspring of Tiantai Sect was invited to preside the reconstruction. The reconstruction took nearly ten years, now it’s basically recovered to its original. Five hundred ink jade arhats are newly built in the temple, which is the first in China, thousands of Buddhas are solemn and magnificent, and are rare in China.

Located in Nianzishan District, Qiqihar City, Heilongjiang Province, the total land area covered is 40,000 square meters, and it’s the first park named with Jin Dynasty Great Wall alongside the Jin Dynasty Great Wall. The park consists of Po Luhuo Square, Jin Dynasty Great Wall and beacon tower. The Po Luhuo Theme Square is centered with the bronze statue of the famous founding general Po Luhuo of Jin Dynasty, and the bronze statue is a valiant image of Po Luhuo in martial attire patrolling the border on a horse. The bronze statue is seated on a huge stone tablet, the front black marble stone is engraved with: Jin Dynasty Northeast Road Taizhou General Po Luhuo, the back is engraved with the lifetime achievements of General Po Luhuo, the height of the bronze statue base and the bronze statue is 14.5 m. There are four imitated bronze reliefs on four sides of the base, they recur the magnificent scene more than eight hundred years ago that General Po Luhuo led the army and the people to reclaim wasteland in border, to build the Great Wall and the pasture and hunting life of Jurchen Ethnic, and summarize the historic feats of Jurchen Ethnic in building the Great Wall in Jin Dynasty. The four corners of the base are decorated with four imitated unearthed cultural relics of Jin Dynasty as mascots, their sculpt has primitively and vividly displayed the essence of art and culture in Jin Dynasty. They are bronze mirror, field caldron, oil table lamp and candle stick. Four 6-m-high stone carving totem columns are erected in parallel in the east, they have embodied the belief and ideal world of the Jurchen Ethnic, meanwhile, have also set off the loftiness and magnificence of Po Luhuo’s bronze statue. Engraved with quartet gods-azure dragons, white tigers, tortoises and rosefinches; spring mountains and autumn water blessing faces; including cows, horses, sheep and furniture, etc, which signify agricultural civilization. The rational afforestation of the central square has fully displayed the oasis in the border desert, the cultured stones distributed in grasslands integrate with poems and essays, calligraphy and stone engravings, which have declared the epic civilization picture scroll of the Northern Ethnic. It’s said the famous expert of Liao and Jin Dynasty history of China, Luo Zhewen personally inscribed for Jin Dynasty Great Wall Relics upon completion. According to repeated excavations and textual researches from famous archaeological experts of China, Jin Dynasty Great Wall is considered as an important defense project in Jin Dynasty. The origin to construction of Jin Dynasty Great Wall is, there was a troop of Emperor Wanyan Akuta of Jurchen Ethnic in Songhuajiang River Valley of Heilongjiang Province, this troop of Jurchen people were living in Songhuajiang River Valley with forests, grasslands and fields, where they could hunt, raise livestock and farm. With a moderate climate, a fertile land, sufficient water source and high quality grasses, and it’s the place most suitable for dwelling enjoying exceptional advantages.

Longsha Park is located in the center of Qiqihar City, with a history of hundred years. It covers 64 ha, including the water area of 20 ha, and it’s the largest comprehensive park in Northeast China. First built in 1904, Longsha Park is the park with the longest history in Heilongjiang Province, because it’s built on the former location of the southern warehouse in the western part of the city, it was called as Cangxi Park, and it’s commonly known as the Western Park. It’s renamed as Longsha Park in 1917. “Longsha” means the place beyond the Great Wall. The Poet of Tang Dynasty, Li Bai once wrote the poem, “when could the general get the edict to fight against the enemies, hence the soldiers could race to the battlefield as soon as possible”, and Longsha Park got its name for this poem. There are five sightseeing areas in Longsha Park, the cultural sightseeing area including the buildings as Library, River-watching Pavilion, Temple of Guan Yu, Temple Of Martial Shoushan and Chengjiang Waterfront Pavilion, etc. The Labor Lake Sightseeing Area, with islands in lake and lakes on islands. The Zigzag Bridge and Arch Bridge are windingly connected, with dotted pavilions. The Zoo Area, including hundred birds and beasts as Manchurian tigers, African lions, leopards, brown bears, mooses and red-crowned cranes, etc. Amusement and Entertainment Area, including electric spacecrafts, elevating aircrafts and large-scale entertainment hall, etc. Flowers Viewing Area, including more than 140 species of flowers. The River-Watching Pavilion and Temple Of Martial Shoushan in Cultural Sightseeing Area are particularly spectacular. The River-Watching Pavilion is located on an artificial hill at the eastern bank of Labor Lake in the park, built in 1907, it’s a classical garden pavilion, which becomes a representative building of Longsha Park by its exquisite and chic sculpt, and is the sightseeing center of the entire park. Climbing up to the River-Watching Pavilion, looking westward, you could view the swaying weeping willows at the lakeside, and the green lake ripples.

Qiqihar is famous for its cranes. At a specific time each morning, the park authorities let cranes out of their cages to fly and roam around the park. It’s a beautiful sight, make sure you get there early enough to be there when they open the Gates.
