As early as the Western Han Dynasty (206BC-24AD), Danyang Shire was established on this region with Wanling (presently Xuanzhou District) as its capital city. Since then, Xuanzhou has been the political, economic and cultural center of administration for two thousand years. However, the name of Xuzhou was changed during the Sui Dynasty (581-618).

Longchuan Scenic Area

Hu Jintao, the former Chinese president, was born and grew up here. Embraced by towering mountains and lying in a small basin, it is about 7 miles ( 11 kilometers) from Jixi County in Xuancheng City of Anhui Province, and 47 miles (75 kilometers) from Huangshan City, where the famous Yellow Mountain is located. Longchuan Scenic Area with its beautiful natural scenery and rich cultural relics gets good reputation in the world It consists of seven main attractions.

Hu Family Ancestral Hall

Originally built in 1547 and renovated in 1878, Hu Family Ancestral Hall faces the south and occupies 2,068 square yards (1,729 square meters). It is surrounded by lofty mountains and clear water. Its inner decoration is very exquisite, and diverse woodcarvings are well preserved , so people call it “Anhui Woodcarvings Art House”.

Jingting Mountain

Jingting Mountain is not high, and its elevation is only 387 meters. However, the vegetation in the scenic area is rich, most of which is bambo. In summer, it is full of azaleas.

Taiji Cave

The Ming Dynasty writer and poet Feng Menglong described the cave as one of the “Four Absolutes Under Heaven”. It is also considered a primary “Place of Enlightenment” by Taoists, similar to the Bodhimanda of Buddhism. The 200-million-year-old Cave is divided into dry and wet layers referring to the yin and yang of Chinese philosophy.
In February 2004, the Chinese State Council included the cave on its fifth list of National Scenic Attractions. It is also a 4A rated National Tourism Area.

Zhaji ancient village

Zhaji Village is second to none in south Anhui Province in terms of scale, and it is also one of the largest ancient residential complexes extant in China. The village has more than 300 Hui-style ancient structures built in Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, Covering a total area of 26,414 square kilometers. It still keeps the only architecture of the Yuan dynasty – Degong Hall, and the most complete Ming dynasty buildings – Aiyue (Loving Moon) Hall and Erjia Temple. Quite a lot of architectures built in the Ming And Qing dynasties are well preserved.

Walking along the time-honored lane, visitors can appreciate the quaint yet lively architecture of Anhui Province: glazed-tile-roofed cottages, solemn ancestral halls, exquisite arch bridges, and well-preserved temples that promote local culture.
