Over 2 million ethnic Koreans live in China, and this area has a large concentration of them. While there are some expatriates from North and South Korea, most of the ethnic Koreans here hold Chinese citizenship, making it the largest ethnic Korean community outside Korea.

Culture

Best Travel season

Bearing a temperate humid monsoon climate, Yanbian weather is characterized by four clear seasons. It is dry and windy in spring, while the autumn is cool and the winter is chilly. June to August is the rainy season of Yanbian. Its annual average temperature falls around 2-6C (35.6-42.8F). September 3rd is the birth day of Yanbian. During the festival, people there will gather among the sea of joy and happiness.

Consumption level

The tourism consumption in Yanbian is slightly more expensive. The price of the budget hotel in Yanji City is about between 100-200 yuan, the price of a Korean special food is about 50 yuan per capita.

Mao’ershan National Forest Park

This park lies 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) south of Yanji City. There is a folk-custom park of Korean ethnic minority, through which visitors can have a further knowledge about Korean.

Fangchuan Scenic Area

It is a village in China. It is located along the Tumen River, near the tripoint where the borders of China, North Korea and Russia converge.

Liuding Mountain Scenic Area

Liuding Mountain Scenic Area is located in the southern suburbs of Dunhua, a county-level city of Yanbian Korean Nationality Autonomous Prefecture in Jilin Province. On the top of the mountain sits a giant Buddha, which is noble as the landmark attraction in Liuding Mountain Scenic Area. Other main attractions are the Buddhist Culture Center, Zhengjue Temple, Jade Buddha Hall, the Ancestral Hall of Qing Dynasty (1644 – 1911) and the Ancient Tombs of the Bohai Regime.

Tumen

It is the largest border city of Jilin, and the boundary line between China and North Korea is just in the middle of Tumen River Bridge.
