Zhifu Island

It is an islet with historical significance in Shandong Province, China. The name of the islet Chefoo was generalized to mean the entire Yantai region in older western literature.

Kongdong Island

Kongdong Island has a total area of one square kilometer and a developed area of 0.84 sq kms.
Situated in low hilly terrain with its main northern peak at an altitude of 63.8 meters, it is as long as 1.95 kms and as wide as 0.5 kms.
The T-shaped mountain range on the island runs east to west for 1,500 meters. Lying in the north of the island, it forms a natural defense, providing warmth in winter and coolness in summer.
Wandering on Kongdong Island, you are in an idyllic world of white sand surrounded by a vast sea of gentle waves. The floating red scarves of the workers in the aquatic products processing plant not far away add a touch of color to the serenity.

Nanshan Park

Penglai Pavilion Scenic Area

Penglai Pavilion Scenic Area is perched on top of Danya Mountain at the northernmost part of Jiaodong peninsula, Yantai. The scenic area includes the Penglai Pavilion, the Water City, Pavilion Xiyuan, and so on.

It is said that Penglai was the place that Emperor Qin Shi Huang looked for the elixir of life, and the place where the great Emperor Wu of the Western Han Dynasty (206BC-24) paid his sacred visit. In addition, the legend of the Eight Immortals Crossing the Sea adds more mysterious atmosphere to this place. The legend goes that the eight immortals crossed the sea using their special powers after they got drunk in the Penglai Pavilion. Penglai, Yingzhou and Fangzhang were said to be the three divine mountains in the sea for immortals to live in.
The Penglai Pavilion has been regarded as a ‘Fairyland’ since ancient times. It is a complex that includes Sanqing Palace, Lvzu Palace, Tianhou Palace, Longwang (Dragon King) Palace and Mituo Si (Amitabha Temple). Numerous calligraphic works by famous writers, couplets hung on the columns of the hall, and stone inscriptions can be seen everywhere, as it was once the gathering place for many renowned scholars and poets.

Penglai Ocean Polar World

Penglai Ocean Polar World has the world’s largest cylindrical tank, Asia’s largest rainforest, China’s largest turtle museum, the longest shark museum and Asia’s largest marine world.

Changdao County/the Long Island

Both Changdao National Forest Park and Changdao National Nature Reserve are on the islands, which are on a cross-Bohai Sea flyway. The islands are often referred to as the Temple Islands (Chinese: Miaodao Qundao) because of the large number of temples that were built there. Xianying Palace is a temple that was built during the Northern Song Dynasty, starting in 1122. It was originally a Taoist temple to the sea goddess Matsu, but became Buddhist later. At the present time the local government has restored the temple to its Ming Dynasty appearance, although many additions had been made during the Qing. The Changdao Islands are now open to non-Chinese nationals.

Kunyu Mountain

Kunyu Mountain is located at the eastern part of Jiaodong Peninsula, and it stretches three city districts, namely Wendeng, Mouping, Rushan. The mountain rolls over 100 kilometers. Its main hill Taibo Ding, with its 932-meter altitude, is renowned as the highest hill in the east part of Jiaodong peninsula. As the legend has it, the divine hills on seas such as Penglai hill, Fangzhang hill and Yingzhou hill are all originated from Kunyu Mountain; the first emperor of Qin Dynasty has visited the mountain for three times to seek the Elixir; the Wu emperor of Han Dynasty followed the step-he went into the hinterland of Kunyu mountain searching for the methods of longevity.

Yangma Island

Summer – Go to the beach during the day and go to the bar at night.
There are two major beaches in Yantai, the First Beach and Second Beach, and another one called Golden Sand Beach in the Economic Development Zone (appx. 25mins from city centre).
Winter – There is a skiing place in the Tashan Park during winter.

Local food here is well-known all around China. Local cooks take advantage of area’s abundant sea food, vegetables and fruits, creatively crafting tasty dishes. Yantai is also the cradle of wine production in China, housing the largest wine production base in Asia. With its high quality and more than 100-years of history, Zhangyu Red Wine produced here is a widely known brand in China and abroad. In 1987, the International Grape and Wine Bureau dubbed the city the “International Grape and Wine City.” Nowadays, the Changyu Wine Culture Museum in the city records the wine’s history and culture.
