It is situated in the southwest region of Qinghai Province, neighboring Sichuan in the southeast, Xinjiang in the northwest corner and Tibet in the south and southeast. Within Qinghai, it is bounded on the north by the Haixi Mongol and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture and neighbors the Guoluo Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in the east.

The Yushu prefecture is a Tibetan settlement place, and the entire nation believes in Tibetan Buddhism. There are many monasteries in the state centered on Tibetan Buddhism, and their religion is very strong.
Horse racing festival are the most popular sport game in the grasslands. The grandest one is held annually on 25th, July, lasting one week. The site is in Zhaxigou, which is only three kilometers from Gyêgu Town. Apart from the delightful horse racing, colorful tents, beautiful traditional costumes and ornaments of the Kangba Tibetan people as well as the folk songs and dance are some of the wonderful sights during the horse racing festival.

The prefecture enjoys a continental plateau climate with high altitude and cold climate as its most outstanding features. Yushu weather has distinct warm and cold seasons, respectively lasting four to five and seven to eight months. The annual average temperature of this region is below zero (32℉). June to October is much warmer and more favorable to visit this prefecture.
The consumption level of Yushu is very low, and the fees for attractions, catering and accommodation are not expensive. The transportation cost will be a major part of consumption. The average daily travel time in Yushu is around 300 yuan.

Gyêgu town uses a unified ticket system and the fare is 1 yuan. The three buses in the town are mainly from the racecourse, Xinzhai Village and Xihang.
Most of the taxis are mainly vans, etc. Starting at RMB 5, it is possible to negotiate with the driver in advance for good prices for various attractions. Take a taxi from Gyêgu town to Nangqian County, about 40 to 50 yuan. It is about 20 yuan for the Chengduo county and about 40 yuan for Zhiduo county.
Starting from Gyêgu town, the chartered fare for nearby attractions is about RMB 200 per day. It costs about RMB 1,000 to the source of the Sanjiang River. It takes one day to go back and forth. If you start from Maduo, it will be cheaper and it will be around RMB 600.
The Tibetan designation Gyêgumdo indicates that it it is a place where one valley opens into another one, here formed by two tributaries of the Gyêgu river, Za Qu and Bai Qu. Since Gyêgu also means men, mankind or all beings, the name could be interpreted As the “dwelling place of men at a valley junction”
Gyêgu, like most parts of Yushu prefecture, is rich in Buddhist monasteries. Being a constituent of the late Nangchen kingdom, the area was, for most of the time, not under domination by the Dalai Lama’s Gelugpa order in Lhasa. The different balance of Power in this part of Kham enabled the older Tibetan Buddhist orders to prevail in Yushu, and thus Gyêgu.

The Gyegu Monastery is a Sakya monastery built in 1398. Built on the mountain, the temple is scattered and there are more than 100 kinds of dances created by the Jiana living Buddha in the Gyegu Temple. Now it is in the Gyegu Town, every year from July 25 to August 1st, the largest Tibetan ethnic event in Qinghai will be held. The paths leading to Gyegu Temple are surrounded by stone walls piled from Mani Rocks, and are full of prayer flags and Fengma Flags.

As a commonly known as Gyanak Mani is a large praying stone pile with more than two billion praying stone engraved with Buddha sculptures and pictures. It can be regarded as the largest in Tibetan areas.

It is a historical and cultural relic left by the Princess Wencheng of the Tang Dynasty (618-907) on her way to Tibet in the year of 641. In the hall, there is the earliest large scale relief Buddha groups on cliff in Qinghai.

Approximately 2 km west of a gravel road in front of Princess Wencheng Temple is Leba valley. Tibetan means “beautiful vallley.” There are three locations of Leba valley rock paintings here.

The Three-River Source National Nature Reserve (Three-River Headwaters or Sanjiangyuan National Nature Reserve) is the largest nature reserve in China and the most concentrated interest of living creatures in high altitude localities. It is also the highest natural wetland in China and the Origin of the Yangtse River, the Yellow River and the Lantsang River. This reserve is situated in south Qinghai Province, which is also the hinterland of the Tibetan Plateau.
For a long time, the Tibetan Plateau is named as ‘Virgin Land’. However, due to nature and human activities, its ecological system gradually degraded and Three-River Source area in its hinterland also gets influenced. Thus, a Nature Reserve was set Up to protect its eco-system and the wetlands, provide favorable living habitats for its wild animals and preserve its original physiognomy and unique natural scenery. This reserve was officially launched on August 19th, 2000. In January, 2003, it was upgraded to state Level by the State Council.

Hoh Xil means ‘beautiful girl’ in Mongolian. Hoh Xil Nature Reserve is one of the largest, highest and most abundant nature reserves in China. It is also one of the world’s best-preserved nature reserves. In the reserve, the snow-capped mountains, grasslands, clear lakes with reflections of white clouds, and groups of wild animals form a breathtaking scenery. Hoh Xil National Nature Reserve has an alpine climate because of its altitude of about 16,404 feet. Influenced by a strong west wind all the year round and due to a lack of water and oxygen, it is dry and cold, and is not inhabitable for humans.
The Longbao Beach has high mountains on both sides, extending in parallel, with a valley of 10 kilometers in length and 3 kilometers in width.
Above 4,000 meters above sea level, the weather is cold here. Even in the light rain in May and June, it often catches snow. Sometimes the weather is clear, but it suddenly rains hail and snow, making people feel difficult to adapt. But this unique geographical and climatic environment gave birth to many rare birds and animals and some precious herbs on the Tibetan Plateau. Gaer Temple is the largest temple of Bai school in Baijiao. Located at the junction of Bamai Village and Tibet, it is located at an altitude of more than 3,700 meters above the sea level and is divided into up and down two parts. Gaer Temple has a history of nearly 1,000 years.

Arrival method: Turn 1024 kilometers from National Highway 214 to the sandstone road leading to Baizha Forest Farm. Continue on about 25 roads. Go west and enter Balongou Valley (also known as Gaer TempleCanyon). Drive about 15 kilometers to Canyon.
The temple is more than 3,700 meters above sea level. The monastery was a Ben school monastery. In 1269 AD, one of the five ancestors of the Sakya faction of Tibetan Buddhism was converted to the Sakya monastery. In 1983 he moved to the village of Xiasaiba. The most distinctive feature of the Saiba Temple is the construction of civil and religious folk cultural relics exhibition halls in recent years. The exhibition hall is divided into two floors and three halls. There are dozens of specimens of rare animals on the Tibetan Plateau in the first floor exhibition hall. The second hall exhibited Yushu Tibetan folk articles and costumes and stone tools. Tangfan ancient Road
