Yuxi is located in the center of Yunnan province, about 90 kilometres (56 mi) south of Kunming, the provincial capital. Like much of the central and eastern parts of the province, it is part of the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau.

Hani Nationality
They are convinced that everything has soul, so they worship many gods and their ancestors. In the 1920s, Christianity and Buddhism had spread to them, but with little influence. The person who is designated to hold the religious activities is hereditary and doctors cure patients with witchcraft and herbal medicine.
Yi Nationality
Various beliefs are treasured, such as the belief of the spirit, the worship of their ancestors, and the adoration of nature, along with the cherishing of Catholicism, Christianity, and Buddhism. Amongst all these beliefs, the power of the spirit is regarded as the most magical one. Some heirlooms left to the Yi people by their ancestors are endowed with magic that can bring good will to their owners. Therefore, these highly valued possessions are carefully kept and passed down through generations.
Local festival
Torch Festival
It is one of the main holidays of the Yi people of southwest China, and is also celebrated by other ethnic groups of the region. It is celebrated on the 24th or 25th day of the sixth month of the Yi calendar, corresponding to August in the Gregorian calendar. It commemorates the legendary wrestler Atilabia, who drove away a plague of locusts using torches made from pine trees. Since 1993, the government of the Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan has sponsored a modernised celebration of the festival, featuring wrestling, horse racing, dance shows, and a beauty contest.
Best Travel season
The area enjoys a subtropical plateau monsoon climate, which blesses it with all-like-spring four seasons all year round. The hottest month is June while the coldest is in December or January. Best time to visit the region is between summer and autumn. Because of the high temperature difference between morning and night, you’d better take a coat when you go there in spring or autumn.

Attractions
Fuxian Lake
Fuxian Lake, located in Yuxi, and 70 km (43 mi) from Kunming, is a famous fresh water lake in China. It covers an area of 211 sq km (81 sq mi) and the maximum depth is 155 m (508 ft) , making it the third deepest lake in China. The lake is so crystal clear that the ancients called it “a large area of shinning glass.. Apart from the beautiful scenery, this place is famous for a mysterious ancient underwater city.
Upon to legend, two fairies descended to the earth and passed by this lake. They indulged in the beauty of the scenery and were reluctant to leave. Finally they turned into two stone women with their hands on each other’s shoulders, which is the “fuxian” in Chinese.
Luchong Village
Luchong is a fishing village located on the west shore of Fuxian Lake. It faces the lake with Penholder Mountain for a background. The village is famous for Anti-wave Fishing and the Big Banyans

Star Scenic Area
Star Scenic Area, located on the west shore of Fuxian Lake, is 12 km (7 mi) from Luchong. The famous Azure Clouds Temple and Star Fishing Holes are in this area.
Lonely Mountain
Lonely Mountain, located in the southern portion of the lake, is the only island in Fuxian Lake. On the island are Lanke Ground, Facing-the-Wind Pavilion, Fairy Cave and Double Stone. There is also a fish-watching platform for people To watch the clustered black carps.
Star Fishing Holes
There are more than 200 fishing holes in Star Scenic Area. In fishing season, fishermen use water wheels beside the holes to catch Anti-Wave Fish. Visitors can enjoy delicious fish here, too

Moon Bay Wetland
The ecological wetland adjacent to Fuxian Lake is a good place to get close to Fuxian Lake. The park is composed of entertainment beaches, tennis courts, parenting paddling pools, wetland water bodies and open forest grasslands. It is ideal for walking and taking a vacation. On the south side there is an open sandy beach of coconut trees, which seems to be on the true Sunshine Coast.

Chengjiang Fossil Site
Chengjiang Fossil Site is one of the best-preserved sites of Cambrian fauna. It presents the appearance of marine organisms 541 million years ago, and provides precious evidence for unveiling the mystery of early evolution.
The fossils site looks like a bent belt, measuring 12.4 miles (20 kilometers) long, 2.8 miles (4.5 kilometers) wide and more than 55 yards (50 meters) deep. The site is located on Maotian Mountain to the southeast of Chengjiang County in Yuxi, Yunnan Province, about 34.8 miles (56 kilometers) from downtown Kunming. It was included in the World Heritage List by UNESCO on July 1st, 2012.

Xiu Mountain

Ailao Mountain Nature Reserve
Ailao Mountain Nature Reserve is situated in the north and middle parts of the Ailao Mountain Ranges, covering an area of 550 square kilometers and stretching 5 kilometers from east to west, 102 kilometers from north to south. It includes parts of counties or cities of Chuxiong. , Shuangbai, Jingdong, Zhenyuan, and Xinping etc. It is established to conserve the ecosystem in the subtropical evergreen latifoliate forests and rare wild animals such as black gibbon, green peacock and others.
Ailao Mountain ranks first in China as far as its evergreen latifoliate forests are concerned. Its vegetation coverage is as high as 85 percent with the altitudes ranging from 3,157 meters to 800 meters above the seal level. Ailao Mountain abounds with rich resources and thus is regarded as As a biological treasure house. The timber volume is about 6.5 million cubic meters to which the evergreen latifoliate forests contribute 95 percent or 6.12 cubic meters.
Ailao Mountain boasts of 550 species of higher plants including 75 kinds of arbors of 23 families and 43 genera, such as Theaceae, Magnoliaceae, Rosaceae, Ericaceae, Pinaceae, Betulaceae, Fagaceae, Aquifoliaceae, and Illiciaceae etc; 460 species of wild lives, including 46 species of amphibian reptile animals and 26 species under state protection. Some rare animals are Francois langur, Trachypithecus pileatus (capped langur), black gibbon, slow Loris, Bengal tiger, Chinese pangolin, golden cat, black musk deer, otter, leopard, Green peacock, mandarin duck, green monkey, hornbill, river deer, zibet, serow, goral, silver pheasant, prairie fowl, Lady Amherst pheasant, red-billed leiothrix (love birds), heron, merganser, Spilornis, thrush, cope, cobra , big toad, black bear, long-billed kingfisher, big cuckoo, woodpecker, and different kinds of sunbird etc.
