2024/2025 Tibetan Monlam Festival in Repkong(Tongren) and Labrang

Day 1 Xining

-Xining arrival, transfer to hotel.

Day 2 Xining – Repkong

-Kumbum Monastery (Ta’er Monastery) ( Its superior monastery is Drepung Monastery, immediately to the west of Lhasa. It is ranked in importance as second only to Lhasa.)
– transferred to Repkong (Tongren).

Day 3 Repkong

-the Losar Festival at villages and monasteries ( The holiday is a new year’s festival, celebrated on the first day of the lunisolar Tibetan calendar, which corresponds to a date in February or March in the Gregorian calendar.)

Day 4 Repkong Displaying a big Thangkha at Gomar Monastery, Repkong, Amdo

-Guomar Monastery ( the New Year ceremony of Butter Tea and Bread which were blessed in the monastery and offered from different tribes in this village. )
-The big ceremony of Displaying a big Thangkha (Sunning the Buddha). ( As this grand event happens only once a year, all the village people is eager to do prostration in front of big Tangkha of Buddha which is 40m long and 20m wide, at the beginning of the year to thank Buddha for the passed year and to pray for good things in the coming year. )

Day 5 Repkong Masks dance at Wutun Monastery, Repkong

-Sengeshong Mago (Lower Wutun) ( enjoy a different Monlam celebration, Masks dance (Cham) by monk artists which is wonderful to see.)

Day 6 Repkong – Xiahe Local Tibetan gathering at Gomar Monastery

-Transfer to Xiahe
-Labrang Monastery ( one of the six great monasteries of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism.)
-Drive in the valleys and further onwards to grassland near Xiahe. Upon arrival you will visit a local Tibetan family.

Day 7 Xiahe Tibetan Monlam Festival at Labrang Monastery, Amdo

-The highlight of Monlam Festival ( the ritual of Thangka Unfolding )

Day 8 Xiahe Cham Dance at Labrang Monastery, Xiahe, Amdo

-Cham Dance ( a lively ceremony of religious dances, in the square adjacent to the Lection Hall of Labrang Monastery.)
-Butter sculpture Arts in Labrang ( a vivid handicraft created by the Buddhist monks inspired by the Buddha teachings.)

Day 9 Xiahe – Lanzhou

Transfer to Lanzhou.
