Introduction of Mount Leduomanyin

Located at the junction of Riwuqie Valley and Moxi Valley in Kangding County of Ganzi Prefecture in Sichuan province, northern region of Gongga Peak on Hengduan Range in Sichuan province, 6112 m above the sea level, Mount Leduomanyin, with its spectacular and gorgeous view, has always been the mountain challenged and pursued by internationally top-notch climbers and sliders because of the worth-trying difficulty of climbing and skiing. The mountain is accessible to climb, merely 320 km from Chengdu, 20 km from Kangding County in Ganzi Prefecture. As the transportation is very convenient, tourists can reach the Camp Site directly by horse. A great deal of climbing materials can be transported through mountainous road conveniently.

Climbing History

In September, 1999, the climbing team of Mountaineering Club from Japanese Hokkaido University firstly reached the summit of Mount Leduomanyin along west ridge.

In October, 2007, four-people climbing team from Czech failed to reach the summit.

In September, 2009, Giulia Monega, Ngrid Backstrom, Kasha Rigby andJimmy Chin from American THE NORTH FACE firstly developed the north ridge—west ridge route to climb to the summit.

Since then there is no record for any summit climbing or skiing activities. So far, Chinese climbing and skiing lovers have done a survey about Mount Leduomanyin w hich has not been formally reached for a long time.

Tips for Mount Leduomanyin:

As Mount Leduomanyin has huge mountain body and complex terrain, climbers will encounter the terrain of rock, ice and snow whichever direction they start from. Therefore, climbers are supposed to explore the whole region and have rich climbing experience in advance. On the whole, west ridge is the ideal route by the reason of clear direction and few obstacles, which are also recommended for the team who want to improve their rate of summit reaching.The mountain with the altitude of over 6000 meters has high requirements for materials, physical ability and team cooperation, so climbers need to adopt a proper route suitable for the team and a reasonable strategy. The best season to climb in the region of Gongga is in October, not fitting in other seasons. As the route for reaching the mountain is very long and hard, climbers should have a good rest and be prepared well to hike in mountainous area, do adaptive training for high altitude, climb and return back.
